OMB's cross-agency architecture model

The federal enterprise architecture will be based on five reference models:

1. Business Reference Model. Describes the daily business operations of the federal government.

2. Performance Reference Model. Measures how well processes, such as the delivery of services to citizens, work across government. It also helps measure the progress toward a federal enterprise architecture.

3. Data Reference Model. Describes the data and information that support government operations, as well as the flow of that information between the government and the public. Helps identify duplicate data resources.

4. Service Component Reference Model. Identifies and classifies the information technology services that support government operations. Key goal is to find services that can be reused across government.

5. Technical Reference Model. Describes how specific technology components throughout the government support the delivery of services.

The Business Reference Model is the first layer of the federal enterprise architecture and is the main viewpoint for analyzing data, services and technology. It's the only model that has been published.
