NASA preps follow-up for CSOC

SMCDS general information

NASA has issued requests for proposals for a new contract vehicle to replace the Consolidated Space Operations Contract, which concludes at the end of 2003.

The new contract, called the Space Mission Communications and Data Services (SMCDS), is divided into five work packages:

* Near Earth Networks Services at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

* Mission Operations/Mission Services at Goddard.

* Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Integrated Communications Services at Kennedy, a small business set-aside.

* Huntsville Operations Support Center at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., a small business set-aside.

* Unified NASA Information Technology Services at Marshall.

Lockheed Martin won the CSOC in 1998. The award included a $1.9 billion, five-year base period and optional extensions totaling $1.5 billion. Lockheed took over the management of 17 existing contracts as part of the deal.

NASA posted the solicitation for the new vehicle April 9.
