Howard Schmidt, who just left his position as the White House's top information security adviser, is taking his expertise to eBay Inc., the Internet auction company confirmed May 5.
He will be serving as eBay's chief security officer, a company spokesman said. Prior to his work for the White House, Schmidt was chief security officer at Microsoft Corp.

Retired Army Col. Robert Coxe announced that he will be departing the Federal Emergency Management Agency, effective June 1.
Coxe is deputy chief information officer for e-government at FEMA and the former chief technology officer of the Army. He retired from the Army last August, but delayed his plans to pursue a career in the private sector because of the national security missions of the two projects he came to FEMA to manage, Project SafeCom and DisasterHelp.gov.

Mark Everson was confirmed on May 1 as commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Everson formerly was deputy director for management and controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management at the Office of Management and Budget.

Josh Ackil, Nick Kolovos and Scott Corley have left key posts on Capitol Hill to join the public policy staff of the Information Technology Industry Council, ITI announced April 30.
Josh Ackil joins ITI from the leadership staff of Senate Democrats, working most closely with Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) as associate director of the Senate Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee.
Nick Kolovos comes to ITI from the office of Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.), having spent three years as her top technology and telecommunications adviser.
Scott Corley most recently served as tech adviser to Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), chairman of the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force.
Ackil, Kolovos and Corley will assume the responsibilities previously handled by former vice president for government relations Matthew Tanielian, who left the association to become senior technology policy counsel at Cisco Systems Inc., and Brian Adkins, who recently joined the office of Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) as legislative counsel.

Charles Ream, former senior vice president and chief financial officer of Newport News Shipbuilding Inc., is slated to become the CFO of Anteon International Corp., an information technology and systems engineering and integration company.
Ream joined Anteon as an executive vice president on April 28. He will succeed Carlton Crenshaw, who will retire this month after more than 37 years in the financial community, including the last seven years as Anteon's CFO.

Shannon Kellogg has been hired to oversee the information security programs of the Business Software Alliance, BSA announced April 24.
Kellogg replaces Mario Correa, who has been promoted to director of software policy. Kellogg comes to BSA from the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), where he served as vice president of information security policy and programs.
