State awards embassy upgrade contract

The State Department has awarded an $88.6 million contract to ManTech International Corp. to oversee the installation of state-of-the-art information technology systems and equipment at embassies and consulates worldwide.

The contract, covering a one-year base period and four one-year options, will manage the support associated with the deployment of worldwide classified and unclassified IT systems in addition to supporting communications and network infrastructures.

Peter LaMontagne, vice president of the company, said ManTech has put together a team that includes Allied Technology Group Inc., GloTech Inc., Atlantic CommTech Corp. and Worldwide Information Network Systems Inc. to carry out the project.

"Most of the work will be directed out of offices in the United States," LaMontagne said. "It is a wide variety of hardware testing and installation and deployment."

The State Department has been working to modernize its IT systems worldwide and make it possible for embassies to communicate by e-mail. The company and its team will be responsible for deploying the global systems capable of supporting the department's foreign affairs mission.
