Countdown to 2006: NASA's financial management timetable

Program Modules in Operation:

Core financial: The system backbone supports full cost management by providing agencywide standards for a broad range of accounting and budget execution processes and financial reporting. Implemented June 23.

Travel management: A comprehensive system to streamline and unify the NASA employee travel system and to improve traveler and vendor reimbursement. Rolled out in April and completely integrated into core financial applications last month.

Resume management: This has introduced new processes for the human resources community and prospective NASA job applicants. This was the first module to be implemented by the agency, in December 2001.

Executive financial management information system (Erasmus): A Web-based system for providing financial performance information on NASA programs and projects in a standardized format. Implemented in June 2002.

Position description management: Provides a Web-based tool that enables the rapid generation and classification of position descriptions. Completed in early 2002.

Module currently in implementation:Budget Formulation: Will provide a Web-based tool to formulate the project, program, institutional, enterprise and agency-level budget requirements. Scheduled for completion in February 2004.

Systems currently in planning:

Integrated Asset Management: Include the functional areas of aircraft management, environmental management, facilities management and logistics management. Scheduled to begin later this year.

Procurement: Will provide a comprehensive tool to support the procurement, receiving, invoicing and payment of materials. Scheduled to begin in late 2004.

Human Resources: Will deliver an agency HR infrastructure that meets recordkeeping and process requirements while helping fill positions with staff who possess the appropriate skills and career goals. Scheduled to begin in late 2004.
