EDS launches "pay per use" component
EDS lunches a Web portal for delivering applications
Systems integrator EDS has launched "My Consistent Office Environment," or myCOE, a key component in delivering computing services billable based on use. Microsoft Corp. aided EDS in developing the service.
EDS is working toward an offering that will reduce up-front capital investments in favor of smaller, but long-term, incremental costs. It uses a Web portal interface to allow users to access applications and services as needed. EDS can bill based on baseline service bundles for applications used daily, monthly subscriptions for those used less often and charges based on use for services such as storage, training or help desk calls.
According to EDS, the interface allows organizations to draw clear correlations between their information technology investment and its value, a necessary element in federal business cases.
