DigitalNet upgrades info sharing software

DigitalNet LLC has a new version of its software for sharing information across different clearance levels.

The XTS suite, whose latest version is XTS-400, is designed for intelligence and homeland security agencies sharing data across jurisdictions and networks, regardless of security clearances. The product is already used in over 600 installations in the Defense Department and intelligence communities, according to the company.

"The real issue is how do I protect my sources and methods but share information for the ongoing investigation," said William Anderson, DigitalNet's senior vice president of DigitalNet's Secure Interoperable Solutions.

Anderson said XTS could have been used for the investigation of the October 2002 sniper shootings in the Washington, D.C., area when several jurisdictions needed to communicate quickly. "Information can be made available, but you can absolutely restrict the data," Anderson said.

XTS uses secure guard technology to control information. With the software, users have a secure portal with rules for access so different entities can communicate and share data while minimizing the need for redundant networks, Anderson said. Previously, agencies had to develop multiple single-level networks and multiple PCs for each user to protect the data.

The XTS-400 solution can work in a wired environment, as well as an array of wireless devices such as cell phones and PDAs, the company said.
