Baker to leave CACI

Roger Baker, a former chief information officer at the Commerce Department, is leaving his job as executive vice president at CACI International Inc.

Baker, 46, confirmed that he is leaving, but he declined to say what he would be doing next.

"I just decided there were other things I wanted to do, but I'm not prepared to say what at this point in time," Baker told Federal Computer Week.

A well-known figure in the government information technology market, Baker was one of the first CIOs in government to call for the creation of a federal information technology czar position to establish a common vision for IT programs governmentwide.

Baker, who left the federal government in April 2001 after three years, said the government needed a central manager who can offer federal agencies a common vision so that agencies' IT projects stay focused on improving the business of government.

Before entering government, he worked for various companies, including META Group Inc. and Visa International Service Association.
