GSA would shrink IT budget

The administration's 2005 budget request would send $7 million less for information technology projects to the General Services Administration than was requested for fiscal 2004.

The budget proposal released today requests only $506 million, down from the $513 million asked for in 2004 and down slightly from the $508 million granted in 2003.

Among the systems that GSA is spending money on:

$24.2 million for GSA Advantage, the agency's electronic ordering system. Of that, $5.7 million is for ongoing work to modernize the system.

$26 million for Pegasys, the agency's financial management system, soon to be upgraded.

$8 million for an effort to replace the agency's legacy accounting system.
