John Gulick, well known in the IT community for his public relations work with CSC, had a heart attack.
John Gulick, who worked as a public relations official with Computer Sciences Corp. for a decade, died suddenly on May 16 following a heart attack at his home. He was 65.
Mr. Gulick was well known in the information technology community for his quick grasp of complicated information and his ability to work easily with reporters, especially on deadline.
"He understood it from the reporter's perspective, and he did a great job of representing first the Air Force and then various private-sector companies while keeping the news and reporter in mind," said Joanne Connelly, president of ConnellyWorks Inc.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Gulick enjoyed successful careers in the Air Force, in industry and in private practice. He co-authored "Media Isn't a Four Letter Word," which was first published in 1994. Now in its fifth edition, this book provides tips and techniques in dealing with the news media.
During a 20-year career in the Air Force, he performed a number of key public affairs roles, primarily in support of Air Force research, development and acquisition activities.
He worked for 10 years with CSC in Falls Church, Va., and San Diego, Calif.
He was the founder and operator of Gulick Public Relations Inc., an advertising and public relations agency in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
Gulick held a bachelor's degree in journalism from Temple University and a master's degree in public relations from American University. The Public Relations Society of America accredited him in public relations.
