Federal agencies are facing a shortage of people who can lead their enterprise architecture efforts, in part because those positions require a mix of information technology and business skills.

Some of the skills necessary for chief architects include the ability to:

Translate the value of using enterprise architectures as a means of controlling IT investments.

Work collaboratively with other chief architects for cross-agency initiatives and governmentwide investments.

Communicate with agency heads, program executives, chief financial officers and Congress.
