Army officials must manage information technology as an enterprise to better support their transformation to a modular force that can rapidly deploy and join with other U.S. and coalition forces, said Col. Mark Barnette, director of information infrastructure modernization in the Office of the Chief Information Officer.
"We are changing the way we do the business of IT in the Army," Barnette said.
Some initiatives the service has in place to meet this objective include:
The Army's Enterprise Infostructure Transformation program will improve voice, video and data systems and services for warfighting units waging the war on terrorism.
The Army Knowledge Online Forward initiative aims to deploy more hardware so service officials can make portal services more accessible to soldiers.
The Army Single Directorate of Information Management Plan will organize core IT services including e-mail, storage and collaboration in one office at an installation.
