Anteon expands board

Anteon International's board of directors has two new members. Officials recently named Michael Smith, former chairman and chief executive officer of Hughes Electronics, and Paul Kern, a retired army general and former commander of the Army Materiel Command, to the board.

While in the Army, Kern revitalized research in bioengineering and nanosciences. He also expanded production, introduced a continuous improvement approach and started the command's supply chain modernization initiative.

Kern served two combat tours in Vietnam, serving as a platoon leader and troop commander with the 11th Armored Cavalry. He later commanded the 2nd Brigade, 24th Infantry Division during Desert Storm. Kern also served as adviser to the Army's chief of staff on all acquisition, logistics and technology matters.

Prior to taking the chair at Hughes Electronics in 1997, Smith served as chairman of Hughes Aircraft, vice chairman of Hughes Electronics and chairman of Hughes Missile Systems. He retired in 2001.

Frederick Iseman, chairman of Anteon's board, said both of the new members bring expertise and experience that will help the board better lead the company.
