SI International gets GPS work

SI International won an $11.5 million contract to support the Global Positioning System.

The Air Force Space Command awarded SI the potential five-year competitive task order, which company officials announced today. The company will provide engineering, planning and programming support to participating agencies and contractors, who will develop the physical parts of the system.

As part of the contract, SI will write a capabilities development document, detailing safety and security requirements, said Walter Petrofski, the company's project lead for the contract.

"We’re happy to be able to support the warfighter for meeting his needs in a hostile environment," Petrofski said.

President Bush in December authorized new policies for space-based global positioning, timing and navigation systems. The President called for the formation of an executive committee on the issue, to be co-chaired by deputy secretaries from DOD and the Transportation Department, or representatives of their choosing.
