SRA to buy Galaxy Scientific

SRA International has agreed to acquire Galaxy Scientific, a services firm that concentrates on business in the Defense and Homeland Security departments.

Galaxy Scientific generated $90 million in revenue from April 2004 to April 2005. DOD and DHS customers accounted for 76 percent of that business. Galaxy Scientific, which has 450 employees, provides systems engineering, information technology and tactical communications services.

Officials did not disclose terms of the cash transaction, which is expected to close by early July, in the June 9 announcement. The deal is subject to review to ensure it complies with antitrust legislation.

The Galaxy Scientific acquisition would mark SRA's second purchase this year. In April, the company acquired Touchstone Consulting Group, a management consulting firm. The addition of Touchstone was intended to provide depth to SRA's consulting business, the front end of the systems integration life cycle.

Galaxy Scientific, meanwhile, will contribute its focus on command, control, communications and intelligence tactical systems, information assurance and training systems, among other areas. In addition to DOD and DHS, other Galaxy Scientific customers include the Federal Aviation Administration.

SRA officials are familiar with Galaxy Scientific's work because the companies have worked together on projects. In 2003, Galaxy Scientific was on the SRA bid team that captured a $41 million contract to provide systems engineering and support services to the Joint Tactical Radio System Joint Program Office.
