Accenture nabs $840M BPO deal
Contract with Texas is to improve Medicaid and other social services systems.
Accenture has won an $840 million contract with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission that contains a large business process outsourcing component.
The five-year, $840 million contract was announced June 30. The project aims to improve the process through which people apply for Medicaid, food stamps and other social services. Texans will be able to apply for program in person, via the Internet, over the phone or by fax or mail.
Doug Doerr, lead partner for Accenture’s government practice in Texas, said Accenture and its subcontractors would manage the overall business process to gather information for welfare applications. Accenture will provide overall program management and assist in the transition from the state’s current application model to the new one. Accenture will also run the underlying technology, Doerr said.
One element of that technology is an integrated application process system that handles Medicaid and Family Access to Medical Insurance Security applications. The system, initially developed by Deloitte Consulting, covers about 5 percent of the state. Accenture will build additional functionality into the system and deploy it statewide. The company also will host the system, Doerr said.
Accenture team member Maximus will operate call centers, which will employ voice over IP. Other subcontractors include First Data Government Solutions, Dell, SBC Communications, Image API, Business Ink, ACP, Commonwealth Capital and Leasing, TEICC, MicroAssist, MRSW Management, DCS and Hire Productivity.
