Unisys continues New Jersey Medicaid work

Contract extension adds to the 16-year engagement for the integrator.

Under the extension of a contract with the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Unisys will continue to manage the state’s Medicaid administration services. The 3-year, $90 million contract extension continues a relationship in place since 1989.

Unisys has similar contracts with Kentucky, Louisiana and West Virginia. The company also handles Florida’s drug rebate processing services, according to a Unisys spokeswoman.

In New Jersey, Unisys processes and pays medical and pharmaceutical bills submitted by providers that have treated Medicaid beneficiaries.

Unisys’s contract extension is tangentially related to the Jan. 1, 2006 implementation of the Medicare prescription drug program. Since the implementation involves the interface of Medicaid and Medicare records, Unisys will support the initiative under the contract extension, the spokeswoman said.

Integrators are beginning to win business associated with the Medicare prescription drug program. CGI-AMS last month captured a $14.5 million contract with the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a system intended to help the agency provide timely and accurate payments to prescription drug plans. EDS has recently won Medicaid system modernization contracts in several states.
