Secure Flight and privacy

The WSJ reports this morning that the Transportation Security Agency's Secure Flight program will not troll through public databases.

The government is shelving plans to collect information on air travelers from commercial databases as part of its effort to identify potential terrorists on passenger lists.

The decision comes as a group of privacy experts is preparing a report highly critical of the Secure Flight program, the Transportation Security Administration's much-delayed effort to take over passenger screening from the airlines.
