BearingPoint gets more USAID work
The new contract includes both IT and non-IT projects in support of an economic modernization effort in Egypt.
BearingPoint has been awarded a $124.7 million contract from the U.S. Agency for International Development to pursue economic and financial reform in Egypt.
The four-year pact is part of USAID’s Technical Assistance for Policy Reform II program. That program intends to respond to Egypt’s request for assistance to reinstate a private-sector-oriented economic model across industries and government-owned or -supported institutions, according to BearingPoint.
The contract spans more than information technology. On the IT side, Egypt has been looking into customs clearance systems. The current system has caused processing delays, according to a study posted on the Economic Growth Project Web site, which provides an information clearinghouse on USAID activities in Egypt.
BearingPoint will take part in selecting and implementing a new system.
Also in Egypt, BearingPoint will support USAID in areas such as customs reform, trade facilitation, financial services modernization and commercial law reform. BearingPoint said it has been providing economic policy development assistance in Egypt for about 15 years, focusing on tax and fiscal reform among other areas.
The integrator’s Emerging Markets unit has captured a number of economic reform projects. In July, BearingPoint announced a USAID task order in which it will work on several projects to boost the business environment for Turkish Cypriots. The company also has recently signed contracts in Afghanistan and Montenegro.
