EMC and Unisys team for public-sector work

The companies are expanding a long-standing partnership to develop storage solutions for agencies.

EMC and Unisys have teamed to develop specialized solutions in the public sector, expanding an existing alliance between the companies.

Unisys has served as a reseller for EMC's storage systems for several years. In the latest phase of the partnership, the companies announced Nov. 14 that they will expand the range of solutions they provide.

The companies will build offerings around EMC’s Surveillance, Analysis and Management System (SAMS), which aids organizations in managing digital video surveillance information.

“We see significant public-sector opportunities” for solutions built around SAMS, a Unisys spokesman said. He cited federal facilities that require real-time monitoring and analysis of entry and exit activities as one potential market.

In addition to the solution development work, EMC will participate in Unisys’ Reston, Va.-based Government Transformation Center. Unisys works with alliance partners at the center to develop, test and demonstrate solutions for government agencies. Other partners involved in the center include Intel, Red Hat, Sun Microsystems, Aperture and Microsoft.

Unisys has tried to bolster its alliance roster, lately. Earlier this month, Unisys and Oracle announced plans to focus on outsourcing and public-sector call center solutions. Unisys’ objective is to broaden its portfolio of hardware, software, middleware and services.
