BearingPoint lands CDC contract

BearingPoint has won an early victory in its quest to expand its reach into the public health market. The firm announced today it has won a $9.8 million contract to provide program management support to the National Center for Public Health Informatics.

BearingPoint recently hired Dr. Michael Cowan, former Navy surgeon general, to help develop its health care business.

The center, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will tap BearingPoint to help develop and run its program management office. The integrator’s support assignment also includes CDC’s enterprise architecture and unified process units. The latter consists of an integrated approach used for project management and delivery, according to BearingPoint.

BearingPoint’s program management services will also cover geographic information systems, distance learning architecture, countermeasure and response administration, communications and alerting, and international informatics.

The pact is worth $2.8 million for an initial nine-month base period. The contract would be worth $9.8 million if the center exercises all options.

Earlier this year, BearingPoint won a $15 million contact to support CDC’s terrorism preparedness office. The company has been assisting the agency’s Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response since October 2002
