This is made necessary because , where were being underused in the first place.I would sure be interested in seeing the data backing up this decision. It would seem to me that more people would be willing to use the phone or go online rather than having to go into IRS centers... but I would really love to see the data.

IRS Commissioner Mark Everson gave an interview to the Associated Press in which he said that the agency is going to cut back the hours of its telephone service this tax season.
The IRS will cut back its hours by three hours a day.
IRS Commissioner Mark Everson said in an interview that the tax agency needed to absorb cuts in its customer service budget, and the change saves the agency about $10 million.
"My obligation is to provide the best possible taxpayer services at a reasonable cost," he said.
