The world from a Google perspective
Just after posting about Yahoo's most searched terms, Google has posted its list.
Unfortunately they do not list the most searched terms. Instead they list the top gainers. Those are:
1. Myspace
2. Ares
3. Baidu
4. wikipedia
5. orkut
6. iTunes
7. Sky News
8. World of Warcraft
9. Green Day
10. Leonardo da Vinci
The top news searches were:
1. Janet Jackson (was that THIS year? Wow!)
2. Hurricane Katrina
3. tsunami
4. xbox 360
5. Brad Pitt
6. Michael Jackson
7. American Idol
8. Britney Spears
9. Angelina Jolie
10. Harry Potter
The Google folks also do an interesting breakdown of categories: world affairs, nature, movies, celebrities, and phenomena, which they self-describe as a catch all category. On those pages, they have interesting charts that show the spikes in search terms.
All that is missing are the most searched terms. Perhaps they will post it... eventually?
These things are interesting because it seems that it does give people a sense as to what people are interested in -- and that is important to all of us, right?
Just a little preview -- for those of you who subscribe to our daily e-mail newsletter, we will be featuring FCW favorites from the staff and then, over the New Year holiday, we will present FCW.com's most read stories of the year. It is kind of interesting.
If you don't get the e-mail newsletter -- or the print publication, for that matter -- (and I can't possibly imagine how you couldn't find it... Anyway, just click here and then follow the instructions to get signed up.
I'm sure I'll find some use for that information in print as well... I'm just not sure yet.
And if there was some story, cover, editorial, column or cartoon that particularly touched you this year, let me know. I'd love to hear it.
