Avineon gets extension to Census subcontract

Avineon, an information technology services company, has received a $3 million subcontract extension for a geographic information systems project at the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Alexandria, Va.- based company is a subcontractor to Harris on the bureau's Master Address File/Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing Accuracy Improvement Project (MAF/TIGER AIP). Harris captured that contract in 2002.

Avineon’s main role on the project is to realign existing TIGER data. The Census TIGER database identifies the type, location, and name of streets, rivers and other geographic features. Avineon’s objective is to make TIGER data more spatially accurate and improve the project in other ways.

Harris exercised option year two of the Avineon subcontract, which could run as many as five years in total. The potential value of the subcontract for that time span is $15 million, said Charles Erdrich, vice president of business development.

Avineon is a prime contractor on several governmentwide contracts, including the Internal Revenue Services’ Total Information Processing Support Services-3 contract, the Naval Sea Systems Command’s Seaport-e, the National Institutes of Health’s Image World 2, and the General Services Administration’s 8(a) Streamlined Technology Acquisition Resources for Services.

The company also holds prime contracts with the Navy, Mint, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the latter via the GSA’s Federal Systems Integration and Management Center.
