Unisys to manage New Zealand vehicle, driver data
The company awarded a seven-year outsourcing deal to provide information technology and infrastructure services for two databases.
Unisys scored a multimillion-dollar, seven-year outsourcing deal with a New Zealand organization to provide information technology and infrastructure services for two databases that contain comprehensive vehicle and driver data, the company announced Jan. 16.
The contract was signed in the fourth quarter of last year.
The company didn’t put a value on the contract, but a Unisys spokeswoman wrote in an e-mail that Land Transport New Zealand (NZ) told a newspaper the deal is worth about $53 million.
Land Transport NZ, which formed a little more than a year ago and is overseen by the government’s Ministry of Transport, administers the Landata and Drivers Licence Register systems. The latter system maintains driver license information, and Landata contains data about motor vehicle registration and ownership, road user fees, and vehicle inspections.
According to a company press release, Unisys will provide application design, development and management, help-desk, facilities and database management, disaster-recovery, systems management, security and change management, and associated server and storage infrastructure services, among others.
Unisys has a 13-year working relationship with New Zealand’s government transportation community.
