Alion buys Washington Consulting

Alion Science and Technology, a provider of technical and engineering services, has acquired Washington Consulting.

Washington Consulting, based in McLean, Va., offers management consulting and information technology services. The company’s federal subcontract work involves enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management services. Before the acquisition, the company was preparing to take on more prime contracting responsibility. The company landed a General Services Administration Schedule 70 contract, through which it aimed to deal directly with federal buyers.

Alion, also based in McLean, was created in 2002 through an employee buyout of the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute. The company’s contract vehicles include a GSA IT services schedule contract; a GSA Management, Organizational and Business Improvement Services contract; and the Treasury Department’s Total Information Processing Support Services-3 program.

In 2003, Alion was among the members of an SRA International-led team that captured a large task order pact to provide systems engineering services to support the Defense Department’s Joint Tactical Radio System Joint Program Executive Office.

Washington Consulting will operate a wholly owned subsidiary of Alion. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
