BearingPoint opens new software development facility in Mississippi

BearingPoint has opened a state-of-the-art software development facility in Hattiesburg, Miss., which will mainly serve government clients.

The Global Development Center, opened Feb. 21, employs 40 workers but could create as many as 250 high-tech jobs for the area by the summer of 2007. The center will provide applications development and testing, technical support and managed services for the company’s government and several major private-sector clients.

“There are many clients that, for a variety of reasons, can’t or don’t want their software development projects to be worked on in an offshore environment,” said Paul Nadeau, senior vice president of the Public Services Solutions practice, in a press release.

The new 30,000-square-foot center “helps alleviate these concerns, while offering many of the same benefits an offshore model would,” he added. “We like to think of it as being able to offer an ‘offshoring onshore’ solution.”

Nearly a year ago, company officials announced they would establish such a facility, citing the economic development climate; a state incentive package, including tax credits and workforce development grants; and proximity to the University of Southern Mississippi.
