CDW launches health care solutions

CDW’s health care unit has launched a pair of solutions for archiving medical images and delivering them to the point of care.

CDW Healthcare now offers Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and a Mobile Point of Care (MPOC) solution. The PACS solution, which includes storage and networking among other components, reduces a health care organization’s need for medical film, according to the company. The MPOC solution provides caregivers access to imagery in operating rooms and other areas. The system resides on a mobile cart and consists of workstations or laptop PCs and a diagnostic- or technician-quality monitor.

The company draws on a range of vendors to assemble the solutions. Those vendors include Cisco Systems, EMC, Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, NEC, Planar, Symbol Technologies, and Toshiba. CDW Healthcare account managers and technology specialists customize the solutions to meet customer requirements.

CDW introduced a sales and marketing operation dedicated to the health care market in 2005. The company has consolidated all of its health care accounts under CDW Healthcare, which is part of CDW’s public-sector business.

Dennis Morley, director of field operations at CDW Healthcare, said 300-bed hospitals represent the unit’s sweet spot. But he added that CDW Healthcare's customers range from physicians' clinics to larger integrated health care delivery systems.
