Calif. awards contract to Unisys to upgrade tax system
The company will expand and modernize a system that calculates and collects employment taxes under the $31.6 million contract.
The California Employment Development Department, the state’s largest tax collection agency, awarded a six-year, $31.6 million contract to Unisys to expand and modernize a system that calculates and collects employment taxes, the company announced early last week.
Unisys will revamp the Document Management Refresh and Consolidation (DMRC) system that the company implemented in 2000. The system processes employment-related tax payments from businesses in the state, according to a press release.
The company will modernize and replace business applications and hardware, including the existing network infrastructure, server and workstation equipment, establishing a Microsoft .NET architecture and consolidating applications, according to the release.
DMRC collects $35 billion annually in employment taxes for the state. The agency is the nation’s largest employment department, maintaining the employment records of more than 17 million California workers.
