California awards HR project to BearingPoint

California state government officials have awarded a $69 million contract to BearingPoint to implement a state-of-the-art payroll and personnel system, replacing one that is decades old.

The new system will manage employment, payroll, benefits, accrued leave, time keeping and other personnel data, according to the company. State employees will use it to select the benefits they want from the options offered, check the amount of paid time off they have amassed and find forms and other documents online. The system is expected to eliminate the need for many paper-based forms.

For state administration officials, the system will be more flexible and provide better reporting tools.

BearingPoint is the integrator on the project. Nearly a year ago, SAP Public Services was selected to provide the human resources system. The state Controller’s Office is head of the project.
