GSA, OMB want info on budget-related line of business

The General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget issued a request for information yesterday regarding the Budget Formulation and Execution line of business.

The line of business aims to identify ways to find common solutions and other approaches to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of federal agency and central budget processes, according to the RFI.

This new line of business focuses on building a budget of the future, the RFI states. It aims to use standards and technologies for electronic information exchange while linking budget, execution, performance and financial information throughout the annual budget formulation and execution cycle.

This line of business will enable the government to analyze budgets and performance, and promote standardizing information exchanges between management. It will also look at governmentwide systems to measure performance.

Comments are due by 5 p.m. May 5, according to the RFI.

Other RFIs were issued recently regarding the new Geospatial and Information Technology Infrastructure Optimization Initiative lines of business. Officials said they want insight on best practices and lessons learned as they build on the business lines. The three lines of business were introduced in President Bush’s fiscal 2007 budget proposal.
