Flipside: Feds ought to be in pictures

"Apollo 13" topped the list in a recent online poll seeking the favorite government-themed movie while Jennifer Garner's "Alias" character ranks as the most popular TV fed.

Council for Excellence in Government online poll: Favorite public service movie

Many movies and TV programs are about public officials. Earlier this month as part of Public Service Recognition Week, the Council for Excellence in Government conducted an online poll seeking the favorite government-themed movie. The poll listed 33 movies featuring presidents and politicians, FBI agents, soldiers, firefighters and military doctors. It included the Bill Murray comedy “Stripes” but not “Ghostbusters.”

The top choice was “Apollo 13,” beating “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “M*A*S*H,” “12 Angry Men” and “The American President.”

Last year, the council conducted an online poll asking people to name their favorite TV fed. The winner was CIA agent Sydney Bristow (actress Jennifer Garner) of ABC’s now- canceled program “Alias.” But not to worry, Jack Bauer fans. The counterterrorism agent played by Keifer Sutherland on Fox’s “24” did make a showing in third place behind No. 2-ranked White House Chief of Staff C.J. Cregg (actress Allison Janney) of NBC’s now-canceled program “The West Wing.”
