Oracle pursues state and local strategy
Recent acquisitions help strengthen software firm's presence in state, county and municipal markets.
Oracle is tracking its progress at selling products to state and local governments, reporting today that more than 33 states run Oracle software.
Mark Johnson, Oracle's public-sector senior vice president, said the combination of Oracle's core technology and company acquisitions in recent years -- PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Siebel -- contribute to the success.
Oracle has more than 1,400 public-sector customers worldwide and counts it as its single largest market, he said.
In addition to the states, Oracle also has 33 of the top 50 U.S. cities and 11 of the 15 largest counties in the country as customers.
