For the artist in everybody
Officials at the Smithsonian Institution’s freshly renovated National Portrait Gallery asked U.S. portrait artists and sculptors to submit their works, and the museum has put some of them online.
The museum held the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2006 to celebrate its July 1 reopening. Entries were limited to sculptures and paintings. If you can’t attend the exhibition, the museum’s Web site is adorned with the works of more than 50 finalists. The site also includes online journals from the artists and a People’s Choice award.
For the artist in everybody, there is an interactive drawing and coloring tool on the site. After you create your masterpiece, you can print it, save it and e-mail it to friends.
