NIST releases PIV card-related special publications
One provides guidelines for testing data on the cards, while the other is a draft of guidelines for interoperability between cards and readers.
PIV Data Model Conformance Test Guidelines
The National Institute of Standards and Technology released two special publications related to personal identity verification (PIV) cards at the end of last week.
The first is a full release of special publication 800-85B, PIV Data Model Conformance Test Guidelines. The guidelines apply to testing data on PIV cards. It also includes tests for verifying public-key infrastructure certificates on the cards.
The second publication is a draft of special publication 800-96, PIV Card/Reader Interoperability. The draft provides guidelines for PIV interoperability between cards and readers. It covers a variety of readers, including contact and contactless logical access readers and physical-access readers.
