Virginia calls for IT award nominations
The seventh annual Governor’s Technology Awards cite outstanding information technology achievements and initiatives in the public sector.
Virginia is seeking nominations for the seventh annual Governor’s Technology Awards, which acknowledge outstanding achievements and technology initiatives in the public sector, according to a July 21 announcement from Virginia Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra.
The awards program coincides with the 2006 Commonwealth of Virginia Information Technology Symposium (COVITS), to be held in Roanoke in September.
The seven categories include four awards that recognize innovation linked to Virginia’s Strategic Plan for IT, including Increased Accessibility to Government and Innovative Use of Technology in Local Government. Three awards recognize innovative technology used in governing localities and elementary, secondary and higher education.
All submissions must include a letter or e-mail message of transmittal, an executive summary of no more than 400 words and a description of the initiative. Nominations must be three pages or fewer, including supplementary materials but not including the executive summary.
All nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 17.
The state will post winning executive summaries on the COVITS 2006 Web site.
It will announce award winners during the COVITS conference anoke Sept. 11.
