Comment on personal use
Regarding the FCW editorial on personal use policy, "Finding the Middle Path," I got this e-mail:
I enjoyed your article "Personal Use Policies: Finding the Middle Path." I generally agreed with its contentions, but I think your example of using Amazon's 1-click into a government site may have been an unfortunate choice. Amazon actually patented its 1-click ordering scheme, under US Patent # 5,960,411 and already sued Barnes & Noble (settled out of court) and defended it successfully in another lawsuit. While I think government workers may well gain valuable insights from personal websurfing, appropriating a patented scheme without a license is probably not the best example.
