Fortify to secure Air Force lab; VMware unveils certification program
Fortify’s role is to provide assurance that the software that the lab introduces into DOD’s information technology infrastructure is free of security defects, Air Force officials said.
The company’s Source Code Analysis and professional services help test the software applications and assist development teams in eliminating security vulnerabilities. Fortify’s technology consists of automated tools that speed code audits. The technology examines the entire code base so developers do not need to manually review samples.
Fortify officials said the company’s automated source code security analysis tools instantly detect the differences between an initial application audit and subsequent versions, so the tool has to only analyze new additions.
VMware unveils certification program
VMware, a developer of software for virtualized desktops PCs and servers, launched a marketplace and certification program for virtual appliances.
VMware users can evaluate or buy from a collection of more than 300 virtual appliances offered in a Virtual Appliance Marketplace at vam.vmware.com.
Virtual appliances are prebuilt, preconfigured and ready-to-run enterprise software applications packaged with an operating system in virtual machines, VMware officials said. Virtual appliances enable independent software vendors to develop self-contained and optimized application stacks that are easy to deploy, operate on any hardware, and are secure and reliable.
