The countdown clock

The new Democratic House leadership is making a big deal about the first 100 hours and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) has even created a countdown clock on his Majority Leader Web site. Well, 100-hours... kinda.

Unfortunately, the majority leader's site uses permanent cookies, unlike his congressional district's Web site.

As my previous posts on this issue state, Congress doesn't have to follow the laws that it passes, of course. It can tell agencies that they cannot use permanent cookies, but then Congress can go ahead and use them. And in fact, if it becomes a privacy issue, they are the first ones to criticize.

I just continue to believe that, especially for congressional Web sites, cookies are just not necessary -- especially permanent cookies.

No, it isn't a huge deal, but...
