E-mail to the editor: More on the need for procurement people
It's an excellent point.
Regarding my May 21 editorial, "Help acquisition workers," I got this e-mail from a DOD procurement person:
I agree with the intent of your editorial: We procurement people need more resources.
However, I believe that your article lost impact by referring to the "procurement workforce" and "acquisition workforce" as if they were interrelated. They are not.
The procurement workforce is a distinct subset of the acquisition workforce. Too often, the call to improve the plight of the acquisition workforce results in plus-ups for the requirements side of the house with little or no help for the procurement workforce.
If your intent is to help the procurement workforce, consistent use of "procurement workforce" or "contracting workforce" [as opposed to "acquisition workforce"] would be clearer.
