We are about to release our annual survey of the best agency to work for IT workers. We have the previous surveys at fcw.com/bestagencies/.

But ComputerWorld magazine is just out with its list of the best organizations for IT workers. There are a number of organizations in our world.

The best government agency, according to ComputerWorld's list... the U.S. Postal Service at number 83.

"The IT department for the country's mail service supports more than 335,000 users, 175,000 desktop computers, 650 national applications and 73,000 point-of-sale workstations. Plus, it manages the 1.5 billion visits to the USPS Web site each year that generate more than $425.7 million in sales. Tracking and rewarding employee performance is done via a suite of Web-enabled performance tracking and compensation systems. Via the Employee Connectivity Program, employees can purchase state-of-the-art personal computing devices from select vendors at greatly reduced rates. Each year, the USPS sponsors Employee Connectivity Days that highlight the types of products currently being offered for personal purchase. The IT department recently established the eAwards system, a Web-based application used by staff and management to nominate individuals for the on-the-spot awards."
