BYOB: Bring your own...bags??? Congratulations to former FCW reporter Frank Tiboni.

We have to admit that when we got an e-mail with the subject line, 'Happy Hour for the Uganda Schoolchildren,' we thought there was an error in our spam filter. Then when there was a line about BYOB, we really thought things had gone haywire. Except for the fact that the e-mail came from Richard Burk, the Office of Management and Budget's chief architect, and BYOB, in this case, stands for 'bring your own bag.'We've all been to a conference or two where we received bags filled with conference materials. Well, now here's an opportunity to put those bags to good use ' to benefit children in Uganda.Burk, who confirmed to Federal Computer Week last week that he is going to retire at the end of the month, is helping lead the event. The event is sponsored by the Arlington Academy of Hope, an elementary school of more than 300 high-achieving students in Bumwalukani, Eastern Uganda. John and Joyce Wanda of Arlington, Va., started the program. They need book bags, ballpoint pens and other contributions for the children, who use Ziploc bags to keep their supplies safe when going to and from school. Some details:: Thursday, Aug. 23 starting at 6 p.m.: Sheraton Premier Hotel at Tysons Corner in Vienna, Va.: The Sundowner at the Sheraton. Some of you may remember Frank Tiboni, FCW's former Defense Department reporter. Tiboni left FCW a few years ago to become a fed at one of the agencies that doesn't really have to report its budget numbers. Let's just leave it at that.Tiboni and his wife, Rita Hughes, recently gave birth to their first child, Mara Francesca. The couple reports that all are doing well. Congratulations to them all.
