Letter: FFATA effort duplicates procurement database

That's a waste of employees' time and taxpayers' money.

In response to “OMB details spending database instructions,” why is there a separate task force and database for citizens to query contract awards?

The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (FFATA) requires "full disclosure" of all entities and organizations receiving federal funds.

This effort duplicates the Federal Procurement Database System (FPDS)-Next Generation (NG) database, which is freely accessible and provides such data and can be modified to add the one data field to comply with the act.

As a taxpayer, I totally object to the government expending funds and federal employee time and effort duplicating a database. Rather, FPDS-NG should be modified to meet FFATA.
