Letter: Data security efforts must not hinder data sharing
A reader is concerned that efforts to crack down on peer-to-peer networking and data brokers could mean trouble for intergovernmental data sharing initiatives.
Regarding "Rep. Clay introduces another data security bill," I hope that [the reference to] peer-to-peer and data brokers does not [include] intergovernmental data sharing agreements and initiatives. That would go directly against other [Office of Management and Budget] directives to promote data sharing between agencies. There is a fine balance between allowing agencies to share data to cooperate effectively, but to do it safely and cautiously so that data breaches do not occur and PII is properly safe-guarded.
