Work in Progress: An inside look at fusion centers (Feb. 18)
Fusion centers set up by state and local officials to share homeland security-related information with federal authorities are becoming a focal point of inter-agency collaboration. They are also attracting increased federal funding and attention. FCW reporter Ben Bain will go inside one major fusion center for a look at what’s working and what’s not, and provide examples to illustrate how other centers meet the needs and reflect the local priorities of where they operate. Is such a local focus compatible with the vision for more standardized centers in the future?
FCW contributor Alan Joch is going to write a companion piece that looks at the policy and management groundwork that needs to be laid to enable these kinds of data sharing arrangements.
