FCW Insider: IPIC in the dark

There are some blog posts that just write themselves, like when you are sitting at the here in Orlando listening to a presentation on emergency management and unified communication and...the power goes out. I mean, at least make me work for it!So we are sitting here in the dark waiting for the power to come up. And, we were sitting in a session titled, “Emergency Preparedness – Unified Communications Convergence.” The panel members were Martha Dorris, deputy associate administrator, GSA; Guy Clinch, director Unified Communications,Avaya; Bob Dix, vice president of government affairs, Juniper; Siafa Sherman, drector of tchnology, Nortel; and Randy Sisto, senior consulting engineer, Cisco Systems. And then, suddenly...nothing. No sound. No light. Nothing. I haven't heard what the problem was but it wasn't just the hotel. Sea World was without power, too. Of course, both DOD CIO John Grimes and DNI CIO Dale Meyerrose talked about the that knocked out power to over 500,000 people. So it has been about an hour...and then, walla, the power just came back. After lunch by candlelight, the emergency management panel started right where they left off.If you're a conference organizer, this just has to be ulcer inducing.
