FCW Insider: Gilligan leaves SRA to start his own consulting company

Another departure of a former government person from SRA International.

John Gilligan, the former Air Force and Energy chief information officer, is leaving SRA, where he has worked since 2005. Gilligan has been SRA's senior vice president and director of the defense sector.

The departure is the latest in a string of former feds from SRA. Mary Ellen Condon, who had worked at the Justice Department, left SRA for Booz Allen Hamilton. And Dan Chenok, who had worked at OMB, left SRA for Pragmatics. Earlier, Tony Valletta, the former DOD deputy CIO, left SRA to do his own consulting work.

SRA is definitely a very different company these days. Renato "Renny" DiPentima, former president and chief executive officer of SRA International, provided a place for retiring feds to learn how to work on the industry side. DiPentima has been replaced by Dr. Stanton Sloane, who came from Lockheed Martin, and most people say it is a very different place. The professed reasoning is that SRA had to change if it was going to grow if it was going to remain competitive...and the consensus is that it definitely has changed.

SRA ranks as number 32 on Washington Technology's 2008 top 100 list, up one from last year.
