FCW Insider: GSA's Lisa Akers the latest government departure
Add another departure to the retirement column: , director of GSA's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center, better know as .Akers is joining as director of Acquisition Solution's Training Institute. Akers told me she is "I might note that she was also a judge for FCW's Rising Star awards last year.

It sure seems to be a good fit. Acquisition Solutions, led by Anne Reed, the former USDA CIO, sure seems passionate about good government and smart acquisition. Akers has been one of the stars of the government acquisition community, of GSA... of government. It is another big loss for government... but a big score for Acquisition Solutions... and it sure seems like it will be a be good fit. She is "wicked" smart (can you tell I'm in New England? WHEW! No more vacations for me!?!)
Akers confirmed her departure and told me she is "proud of FEDSIM's contribution to the IT acquisition community" and that the decision to leave the organization was a very difficult one.
I have no doubt about that. She has been a proud government employee and has done remarkable work for GSA and FEDSIM.

Lisa A. Akers is the Director of FEDSIM, a National Program within the Assisted Acquisition Services of the Federal Acquisition Service, GSA. Annually, FEDSIM acquires and manages over $1.4B worth of Information Technology and Professional Services projects on behalf of other federal government agencies. FEDSIM began doing Performance Based Acquisitions in December 2000 and has since awarded and managed over $4.8B in Performance Based Acquisitions. Prior to be named FEDSIM Director in October 2003, Ms. Akers was the Deputy Director and responsible for strategic planning, information technology, training, knowledge management, and other corporate infrastructure. Ms. Akers was the project manager and technical evaluation chair for the GSA Millennia Government Wide Access Contract valued at $25B and awarded in April 1999. Ms. Akers acted in an advisory role in the Alliant and Alliant Small Business Acquisitions.
Prior to joining the federal government, Ms Akers worked for Support Services, Inc implementing medical computer systems, for a medical professional liability insurance brokerage, and for Thomas Jefferson University doing neurosurgery and red blood cell enzymology research. Ms. Akers received her B.S., Microbiology from Pennsylvania State University in 1983 and received her M.S., Information Technology Systems from George Washington University in 1998. In September 2005, Ms. Akers became certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by Project Management Institute (PMI).
Ms. Akers served as AFFIRM secretary in 2003. She has served on conference planning boards for Digital Government and the Project Management Summit. She is currently a government co-chair for the Industry Advisory Council’s Voyagers program developing future leaders in government and industry after serving as a government vice-chair in 2006.
