Hurricane Ike photos available online
The U.S. Geological Survey has posted before-and-after images of the Texas and Louisiana coastal areas damaged by Hurricane Ike.
Photographs and videos taken before and after Hurricane Ike struck the Texas and Louisiana coasts are now available on the U.S. Geological Survey’s Web site.Images of Texas’ Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula were taken several days before the hurricane struck and then after the storm pounded the coastline.The peninsula was in or near the right eyewall of the hurricane, USGS officials said. It experienced the strongest winds and suffered the greatest effects of the storm, they added.Storm surges and waves crested Crystal Beach and swept homes inland. The four sets of before-and-after photographs posted online show the impact on residential areas.The images were taken during flights over the gulf shore from western Louisiana to south of Galveston, Texas. USGS will post additional photographs on its Web site in the coming days to
