Voinovich to retire in 2010
Ohio senator and federal workforce reformer decides against seeking another term.
Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), who has worked on federal employee
issues, announced today that he would retire from the Senate when his
current term expires in 2010.
“In my lifetime of public
service, I have never seen the country in such perilous circumstances.
These next two years in office, for me, will be the most important
years that I have served in my entire political career,” he said in a
statement.
Voinovich has been a member of the Senate Homeland
Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and is ranking member of
the committee’s Oversight of Government Management, the Federal
Workforce, and the District of Columbia Subcommittee. He has promoted
linking pay to performance results in past proposed legislation.
During
his final two years, Voinovich said he would focus on an economic
stimulus package, jump-starting the credit markets, and continuing to
improve the personnel and management of the federal government.
